Wreaths aren’t just for your front door anymore, folks. You can place them on a wall, over a fireplace, or even in your kitchen. Have a blank wall space, but you’re tapped out on mirrors and family photos? Maybe a wreath is your answer.
This cotton stem wreath hangs (almost) year-round in our kitchen, though I do replace it with something a bit more seasonal during Christmas time. Full disclosure: I also put up three Christmas trees, so things get weird around here in December (okay, okay – early November…)!
This is a quick and fairly simple project that requires very few supplies. A quick trip to your local craft store, and you’re ready to knock this out!
TOOLS OF THE TRADE
❖
◇ grapevine wreath | available @ Hobby Lobby / Joann’s / Michael’s
◇ cotton stems & / or cotton garland
◇ floral wire
◇ wire snippers
◇ hot glue gun + glue sticks
INSTRUCTIONS
❖
{ 1 }
Lay wreath on a flat work surface with plenty of space. Plug in your hot glue gun so that it can warm up while you work.
{ 2 }
If you are using a cotton garland, begin by attaching the end of the garland somewhere between the middle and outer edge of the grapevine wreath with floral wire. Wrap the floral wire around the center/main stem of the garland and secure it around a cluster of the grapevine stems in the wreath.
If you are using cotton stems, you will simply stick the stem into the grapevine wreath (between the grapevine stems).
{ 3 }
With the cotton garland, work your way around the entire wreath, affixing the garland to the grapevine stems with floral wire as you make your way around the wreath.
If you are using cotton stems, continue to place the stems in the wreath until you have worked your way around the entire wreath.
{ 4 }
Now, you will adjust the cotton stems until your wreath looks full, or to your own visual liking. Sometimes, I will snip some of the individual cotton bulbs off of the stems and place them individually in the wreath if there is a bare spot that needs to be covered.
{ 5 }
When you’ve adjusted your wreath to completion, you will secure the stems in place with your hot glue gun. Work your way around the wreath with the glue gun, applying the hot glue sporadically where the garland or cotton stems are attached to the grapevine wreath. If you’ve manually adjusted or spread the stems, glue them to the wreath as needed.
{ 6 }
Let the glue dry and find a new spot for your masterpiece.
